LOOKS

The prettiest window on the street.

Crisp canvas over a white sash is one of London’s oldest looks, and still one of its best. Each Sunhat is made to measure in a fabric you choose, so it looks like it was always meant to be there.

WHY A SUNHAT

Better-looking windows. Cooler, more private rooms.

COMFORT

Cooler, without closing the curtains.

An awning stops the sun outside the glass, before it becomes heat in your room. Keep the window open and the daylight flooding in, instead of sitting behind drawn blinds all afternoon.

PRIVACY

A little more privacy, all day.

The canopy softens the view in from the pavement and the windows opposite, without making the room dark. Ideal for ground floors and anyone who works by the window.

A LITTLE HISTORY

London has done this before.

Look at old photographs of Belgravia, Kensington or Brighton and you’ll see striped awnings over the windows of houses just like yours. They kept rooms cool long before air conditioning. Sunhat brings them back, made to fit today’s sash windows, with nothing fixed to your brickwork or frames.

MADE TO ORDER

Choose your stripe.

Every Sunhat is made to order, so the canopy is your call: classic black and white, softer stone stripes, or a plain colour to match your front door. We bring swatches to your measure so you can see them against your own brickwork. Want a specific colour or design you don't see here just enquire & we will try and arrange it.

HOW IT WORKS

From first visit to fitted.

01

We measure.

We visit, measure each window and bring fabric swatches. It’s free, takes about 30 minutes, and you get a fixed quote within 24 hours.

02

We make it.

Your Sunhats are made to your exact measurements in about 2 - 3 weeks.

03

We fit it.

We fit from inside, with no drilling and no changes to your windows. Both sashes still open and close as normal.

PERFORMANCE

Stops the heat before it
gets in.

Inside blinds catch the sun after it’s already through the glass, so the heat is in the room. A Sunhat shades the glass from outside.

Illustrative solar heat reduction compared with no shading: no shading 0%; grey roller blind 21%; Sunhat maximum protection 67%. Performance varies with window size, orientation and sunlight conditions.

Made for period windows, not against
them.

No drilling.

Both sashes still work.

Nothing permanent.

Conservation area?

It sits within your window frame. Nothing is fixed to the brickwork.

Open, close and lock the window as normal, so you can keep out noise, rain and anyone on the pavement.

Detachable in minutes, with no marks left behind.

Because nothing is fixed to the building, it’s usually straightforward, but rules vary by borough. We’ll talk it through at your measure.

WHO WE ARE

Who will come to measure.

We’re Jack and Shane. Shane has spent 7 years making and fitting awnings across London and the UK. Jack’s west-facing sash window cooked every July, so we built the awning we couldn’t buy. We still measure and fit every Sunhat ourselves.

QUESTIONS

Good questions.

How much does it cost?

From £340 per window, including the measure, the made-to-measure awning and fitting. Larger windows cost a little more. You get a fixed quote after your free measure.

Can I still open and close my window?

Yes. Both sashes open, close and lock as normal with the Sunhat fitted.

Will it damage my windows or brickwork?

No. Nothing is drilled or fixed to the building. It sits within your window frame and comes off in minutes without leaving a mark.

I’m in a conservation area. Is that a problem?

Usually not, because nothing is fixed to the building. But rules vary by borough and some listed buildings have extra restrictions. We’ll talk it through at your measure.

What about wind and rain?

The canvas is water-resistant fabric. We’ve tested Sunhat in winds up to Beaufort 5, a fresh breeze of roughly 19–24 mph. When stronger winds are forecast, we recommend folding it back, which only takes a minute or two.

Does it work on upper floors?

Yes. We fit everything from inside the room, so there are no ladders or scaffolding outside.
